why the philippines

The Philippines has a deep pool of English-speaking talent working hours that overlap well with Australia and New Zealand. Startups hire there for engineering, design, marketing, customer support, operations, finance and executive assistance. The people you hire join your team as long-term employees, with the same onboarding, tools and expectations as everyone else.

where offshore fits

Some roles belong here: anything where knowing the local market is the skill, and your senior technical leadership. Plenty of others work well offshore, and what you save there helps you pay properly for the local hires that matter most. Claiming the R&D Tax Incentive? We can introduce you to R&D advisers who can confirm how your offshore team is treated before you hire.

how it works

1. Brief

We start with a call to understand the role, your team and what good looks like. We write the job ad and position the role so it attracts people who want to stay.

2. Source and screen

Our Philippines-based team sources candidates and runs first calls. We shortlist on skills, communication and how well each person fits the way your team works.

3. Your take-home test

We send shortlisted candidates your take-home task and collect the results, so you only spend time with people who have shown they can do the work.

4. Interview and hire

You interview the finalists and choose your hire. We manage references, the offer and the handover into employment and onboarding.

On-costs on top of salary

Employing in the Philippines adds a few costs on top of your hire's salary. As a guide, allow for roughly 15% to 20% on top. That covers a 13th month of pay (one extra month's salary a year), the employer share of SSS (around 10% of salary, capped at a monthly salary of PHP 35,000), PhilHealth (around 2.5%) and Pag-IBIG (around PHP 200 a month). If you employ through our employment partner, add the monthly employment fee, insurance and deposit described above. These are approximate figures and the exact cost depends on salary, so we confirm them in your quote.

employing your hire

Your hire needs to be employed properly under Philippine law, including 13th month pay and government contributions to SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG.

Managed by Kairos

We look after employment for you as your partner. We set your hire up with our employment partner, run payroll each month and handle questions along the way, so you deal with one Australian business. As a guide, employment typically costs around US$200 to US$250 a month per person, plus an insurance fee of 2% of salary and a refundable deposit of at least one month's fees. The exact rate depends on how many people you employ and whether you pay annually, so talk to us for a quote.

Do it yourself

Prefer to employ your hire yourself? We prepare the offer letter, your hire signs, and you manage them directly. We'll also share our best-practice guide to employing in the Philippines, so you have the right setup from day one.
